On Presidents Day, January 18, 2013, the kids and I went to see the original Emancipation Proclamation. It was a great opportunity to see such an important piece of our history in person. We couldn't take photographs of the document but here is a picture of us in the exhibit.
The exhibition was at our local history museum. We spent the day learning about our states history and seeing how people lived many, many years ago in addition to the black history and civil war exhibits. The children found it amazing to see a display of mastodon bones that roamed this area more than 10,000 years ago. I saw this painting and immediately wanted it. I might can find a print online somewhere.

Dinnertime or Jamaica Native by William Gilbert Gaul 1891-92 |
As with any museum trip, it was very educational. The kids and I found out all sorts of interesting facts and saw many pictures and artifacts. While there we also saw the 13th amendment, which is in better condition than the emancipation proclamation. It was a fun day out with my children. Did you get the opportunity to see the exhibition? See ya soon!
Awesome! Looks like a great day!
