As a lover of all things DIY, I will try my hand at almost anything at least once. I've built things, tiled things, installed sinks and cabinets, painted walls but there is one thing that I have never done and quite frankly it scares me. I've never painted a piece of furniture. Sure I've used rub-n-buff on a table but that doesn't really count.
I am ready to conquer this irrational fear and pull out the paint brushes. If you have been around here awhile you have seen my living room a time or two but if you are new, I live in a sea of brown. I find safety in brown but lately I have been itching to change my look, just a tad.
Enter my console table. You may know the one, the one from my entry way. It's a great candidate for a makeover. I've had this table for 11 years now and it has the dings and scratches to prove it.
Besides picking a paint color, I am researching paint techniques and types of paint. While doing my paint research I came across some fabulous console table renovations. They are colorful and each makes a big impact. Check'em out!

Do you have any painting techniques you live by? Do you have a preference in types of paint you use on furniture? I've also been thinking about using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint or Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint. Have you used any of these? Do tell and see ya soon!
I'm a lazy painter Darnetha, and all I use is spray paint, even for cabinets! The chalk paint sounds like a great idea and I've seen lots of bloggers have fab results with it. So, good luck, and You let us know which is best. :-)
ReplyDeleteoooh…. i love the first one.. the coral-y one… i might take that a step further and dip each leg into gold paint as opposed to leaving it bare wood!

ps - i nominated you for a Liebster Award because i love your blog. :)
Thanks Kerri for the nomination! And I am totally with you on the gold dipped legs, fabulous! I am leaning toward painting my console coral but I am also liking blue right now. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.
DeleteI paint anything and everything. If you've never done that before then I think chalk paint is a good way to start.
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteAren't they! Love the designs and the colors!
DeleteI'm a fan of chalk paint, usually make my own with plaster of paris. All fun color choices!
ReplyDeleteHow is the finish of chalk paint? Curious.
DeleteI'm excited to see your project and which color you go with! I hope you go with a vivid color! I swear by semi gloss or gloss paint for a shiny smooth finish! I also love glossy oil paint and I think Sherwin Williams sells it in colorful colors :) Also sue a good brush! Like Prudy Paint brushes & don't forget to use a primer unless you get a primer & paint in one and also sand :) Have fun!! And yeah for taking on this project!
ReplyDeleteI know the benefits of a good brush and swear by them! I hope to pick a color today!
